IMC 011 - Can Indie Movies Survive? The Oscars, and Trolling Along

Film economist Edward Epstein says that indie movies are going to die. We chat with our guest host Chad about acting in indies versus major movies. We are finally done with our Doorpost entry The Proxy.
Schmollywood: The Oscar nominations are in, and they seem to be selling out right before our eyes.

  1. Yes, conventional, studio-backed theatrical distribution will remain for movies like "Avatar," and will never be a secure destination for indie films. But what Epstein's missing the point: the industry is changing, people are watching more indie films (from home!), and distribution channels are opening up on a daily basis for indie producers to get their work out. Things are changing, and the theaters' hegemony over the market has been cracking for years.
