Yes, conventional, studio-backed theatrical distribution will remain for movies like "Avatar," and will never be a secure destination for indie films. But what Epstein's missing the point: the industry is changing, people are watching more indie films (from home!), and distribution channels are opening up on a daily basis for indie producers to get their work out. Things are changing, and the theaters' hegemony over the market has been cracking for years.
